Laboratory for Electrical Drives and Power Electronics

Permanent-magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) are a preferred actuator for many demanding applications due to their compact design and high power density. For the control of the drives, a power electronics and a complex controller structure is necessary whose design can vary greatly depending on the application. The control of PMSM is thus an important and steadily growing field within drive technology. On this test bench, a powerful real-time target enables the intervention and analysis of various sections of the drive control. Thus, well-known control methods can be analyzed, but also new algorithms for controlling of PMSM can be tested and evaluated.

Test bench for measuring electrical drives

Continuously increasing requirements for electrical machines caused by new areas of application or by changes in law require often a new machine design which is adjusted to the new requirements. The in advance through simulations determined behavior of the new design must be validated with a prototype afterwards. With the help of this test bench asynchronous machines as well as permanent or electrical excited synchronous machines up to a rated power of 7,5 kW can be surveyed. Moreover an up to 6-phase power measurement can be performed to determine for instance the efficiency of the machine and inverter separately.
